Matt's Morning Mashup: November 10

As I had last Friday off, and was quite indisposed, this is the first Mashup since last Thursday. Lot's has happened. Another win with Auld in net, Winchester's first, a third period Gerber collapse, and trade rumours are abound.

Read on.

Jesse Winchester was getting a lot of criticism for not producing points with all of the top-six minutes he was getting. He silenced critics with a goal and an assist, but the real hero here is the captain.

"Since being 'demoted' to the second line, Alfredsson has transformed the Senators into a multi-threat team, and ended two goalless streaks (Winchester's on Thursday, and Fisher's on Tuesday) in just a few games."
- Sens Army

Mike Sharp has a good one up about Matt Carkner. Bingo, carrying 8 defensemen, is considering dressing Carkner as a forward, as he did at the Sens training camp.
"Does Carkner crack those top three lines? And if not, does it make sense to move a top-four defenseman onto your fourth line?"
- Sharp on the Sens

Sens Chirp givs a little more praise for the second line's performance in the Flyers game.
"Up front, the line of Alfredsson, Fisher and Winchester dominated every time they were on the ice. They seemed a step ahead of the Flyers D all night long and absolutely owned the game with their cycle play. Fisher had two assists on the night giving him four points in his last two outings."
- Sens Chirp

Sharp has an update on Zubov's impressive season thus far, and his improvements from last year where he was playing some fourth line minutes and registered only 6 points in the last 22 games.
"the second-year forward now leads the team in points with 10 (five goals, five assists). He continues to team with Zack Smith and Ryan Shannon to form the B-Sens' most dangerous line."
- Sharp on the Sens

Sens army on the Canes game and Joe Corvo, the newest Sens killer. Gerber was in net, and lost. Not good for this guy.
"Gerber made some solid saves, and this loss certainly can't be pegged on him--the team just didn't play well enough in front of Darth Gerber. I'm not sure if it's because the team was tired after playing last night (Carolina did, too, so it's not much of an excuse) or whether they are subconsciously afraid when Gerber's in nets, but they're going to have to get over it because he will play at least a few more games this year."
- Sens Army

Sens Army has an update on the farm. I have to say, Elliott's numbers aren't as good as I'd hoped. That said, the team did have a four-game losing skid, so that may have deflated his stats a bit.
"The B-Sens are fourth in the East Division, and fifth in the Eastern Conference. Zubov is 11th in league scoring with 14 points (7G, 7A) and Elliott is eighth in save percentage and tied for 13th in GAA. Here's the B-Sens top-five scorers:

  1. Zubov: 14P (7G, 7A)
  2. Shannon: 14P (5G, 9A)
  3. Bell: 11P (4G, 7A)
  4. Smith: 10P (8G, 2A)
  5. Karlsson: 8P (1G, 7A)"

- Sens Army

Over at the 6th Sens, the hate-on for Joe Corvo is heating up. I have to say, I agree.
"For the first time since the Leafs were regularly bettering the Sens in the Playoffs, I really loathe an opposing team's player. I can't even really pinpoint what it was that set me off: It could have been his pubic hair goatee, his lame tattoos, his shitty faux-hawk from his days here, the fist pump, his dopey grin or the Foligno'esque leaping. After Friday night's performance, the only way Corvo's going to get cheered in Ottawa is if he jumps off the Peace Tower. Congrats Joe, you've joined an elite list of hockey villains like: Berard, Yashin, Pronger, Downie, Crosby, Domi and Emery. "
- The 6th Sens

Over at Scarlett Ice, a blog was written asking "has the ship been righted?" Some decent insight into our current situation with everything from defense, secondary scoring, goaltending, and everything in between.
"So you see, Sens fans, let us not despair. After all, the year we made it to the finals, we started off pretty poorly as well. If worse comes to worse, use the crapiness of the team as an excuse to drink more than you usually would."
- Scarlett Ice

That's it for today!
